The primary duties involve performing venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing, alongside accurately identifying patients and following specimen collection procedures. Additional responsibilities include entering all collection information into the laboratory computer system and picking up samples from nursing units as directed by the Supervisor.
The minimum requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent, though completion of a formal phlebotomy training course from an accredited school is preferred. One year of phlebotomy experience is also preferred for this role.
Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes. Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens. Ensures that all information from the blood collection of specimens is entered into the laboratory computer system including time drawn, time received, and proper phlebotomy code. Picks up samples from nursing units as required. Performs other related functions as assigned by the Supervisor.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy procedures from an accredited school or training program preferred.
