The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs various direct and indirect patient care tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, which may involve sharing team responsibility for patients. Key duties include administering IV fluids and medications, performing venipuncture, physical assessments, and managing wound care.
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited Practical Nurse Program and hold current licensure from the Alabama State Board of Nursing. Following orientation, the LPN must demonstrate and maintain competence in the skills pertinent to the practice of a Licensed Practical Nurse and the care of Acute Care patients.
