The pediatric hospitalist will evaluate and treat patients, providing routine care and management in a pediatric inpatient and newborn nursery setting. They will also document findings and communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
Candidates must hold an MD or DO and be board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Medicine. They should also be able to obtain an unrestricted license to practice in Iowa and have the authority to prescribe medications.
Join a pediatric hospitalist team of 14 physicians and 10 nurse practitioners at Blank Children’s Hospital 182 shifts/year Our pediatric hospitalists provide family-centered care for patients from birth through adolescence in two newborn nurseries and a 43-bed general pediatric unit. In addition to the main campus in Des Moines, Blank hospitalists also provide support for the pediatrics unit and newborn nursery (level II) at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, IA. You will have a wide variety of pediatric subspecialty support from Blank Health Providers including: pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric intensive care, neonatology, pediatric surgery and 15 other pediatric subspecialties The pediatric hospitalist service provides education for the Blank Children's Pediatric Residency, an ACGME accredited program as well as visiting family practice residents and medical students from the University of Iowa and Des Moines University. Blank serves as the only Pediatric Level II Trauma center in the state and is home to a Level II NICU complete with a Pediatric Transport Team, Neonatal Transport Team and in-house transfer center. Role Overview: Evaluate and treat patients Provide routine care and management of hospitalized patients in a pediatric inpatient and newborn nursery setting Document findings in accurate, systematic form and maintains appropriate documentation in the EMR Utilize data to identify areas of improvement, monitor progress, and design/implement initiatives which can make a positive impact on the care of newborn or inpatient pediatric patients Effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, staff, and members of the community from diverse backgrounds Provide specialty specific patient-family teaching and counseling based on needs, and in collaboration with the care team
