This role involves coordinating and supporting the medical needs of Pediatric Otolaryngology patients by partnering with physicians and residents to deliver excellent clinical care and customer service. Responsibilities include providing outpatient care, orienting staff to treatment guidelines, offering consultation and follow-up services, and participating in the development of clinical pathways.
Nurse Practitioners need an MSN with a nurse practitioner focus and must be licensed RNs and certified nurse practitioners in Virginia; Physician Assistants must be licensed in Virginia. Prior experience in Otolaryngology is preferred, alongside strong relationship-building, time management, adaptability, and sound judgment skills.
Provide outpatient care and medical management as directed for a variety of Pediatric Otolaryngology diagnosis. Orient residents and nursing staff to departmental treatment guidelines and protocols and monitor compliance in an effort to decrease practitioner variability, decrease cost, improve quality and patient satisfaction. Provide initial and follow-up continuity evaluation and management services to patients as assigned; provide initial consultation services; provide continuity follow-up services. Provide family education for a variety of Otolarngology disorders. Participate in the development of clinical pathways/care plans/guidelines/protocols in conjunction with faculty. Assist Pediatric faculty members with in office procedures. Facilitate communication between faculty and residents and nursing about care plans and outpatient follow-up plans. Collaborate with clinic nursing staff to triage medical calls from patients, referring and primary care physicians. Provide pre and postoperative treatment education to families. Coordinate scheduling and referrals. Perform Other Duties as Assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Nurse Practitioners must have a MSN with a nurse practitioner focus. Must be a licensed RN by the Virginia Board of Nursing and a certified nurse practitioner. Physician Assistants must be licensed as a PA in the State of Virginia. Prior experience in Otologaryngolgy related services is preferred but not but required. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with public, partners, customers, and co-workers; while working cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals. Ability to manage time and resources to ensure assignments are completed accurately and deadlines are met. Meets attendance/punctuality requirements. Ability to adapt to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs with enthusiasm and energy. Takes independent action to address and resolve problems. Ability to expresses ideas effectively and demonstrate sound judgment with regard to decision-making. Ability to deal with others in a direct honest manner and comply with all EVMS policies and procedure. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistical analysis.
