The Cytotechnologist microscopically examines slides to detect abnormal or atypical cells, identifying various infections such as fungi, parasites, bacteria, and viruses. Essential duties also include preparing specimens, performing quality control, processing specimens, and regularly reporting abnormal findings to the cytopathologist and patient caregiver.
Candidates must graduate from an approved school of Cytotechnology and hold a Bachelor's degree in Science or Cytotechnology. Required licensure includes a current Florida State Cytotechnologist license and certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
The Cytotechnologist examines slides microscopically to detect abnormal, atypical cells that may be present.
Education/Training Graduate from an approved school of Cytotechnology. Bachelor degree in Science or Cytotechnology.
Licensure/Certification Current license as Cytotechnologist in the State of Florida – renewed biennial in August. Certified Cytotechnologist (ASCP) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists – renewed annually.
