The primary role involves developing competency in performing basic polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under direct supervision, which includes preparing equipment, applying sensors, and monitoring data acquisition during sleep studies. Additionally, the assistant will prepare equipment and provide instructions for Home Sleep Apnea Testing (HSAT) and handle departmental scheduling and miscellaneous tasks.
Candidates need basic knowledge of sleep medicine, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, along with a high school diploma or GED plus six months of direct patient care experience, or one year of postsecondary education, or current enrollment in an accredited polysomnography program. The position requires working rotating shifts including nights, days, weekends, and holidays, and maintaining current CPR or BCLS certification.
Desired Skills & Knowledge: Basic knowledge of sleep medicine, human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology. High school diploma or GED plus 6 months of direct patient care experience or 1 year of postsecondary education or current enrollment in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography. Licensure & Certification Preferred: A-Step training, EEG and/or EKG Certifications Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: Employees must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
