The nurse is responsible for performing initial patient assessments, implementing timely interventions, and managing critical care priorities. They also coordinate team assignments and participate in continuous quality improvement plans to enhance organizational performance.
Candidates must hold a Registered Nurse license in the State of Indiana and possess BLS or CPR certification. ACLS, ALS, or PALS certifications are required depending on the specific unit assignment and patient population.
Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
Reassesses patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention. Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs and recognizes and responds to emergencies.
Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcome.
Participates in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning.
Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based upon patient and unit needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness. Utilizes appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
Participates in orientation of new staff.
Maintains a neat, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff.
Participates in the unit’s continuous quality improvement plan to improve organizational performance.
Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff; greeting them promptly and courteously.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.
Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
ACLS or ALS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Must successfully complete dysrhythmia recognition test at initial department orientation.
Must complete ACLS or ALS certification during orientation. Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course or PALS must be completed within one year of hire.
