The Respiratory Therapist Assistant performs diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, verifying physician orders and monitoring patient response to therapy. Responsibilities include performing various cardiopulmonary procedures, recognizing life-threatening situations, and ensuring the correct setup and safety of all necessary patient care equipment.
Candidates must be actively enrolled and in good standing in a 2-year approved respiratory care program, having completed the first semester, with no prior experience required beyond clinical affiliation. Essential requirements include maintaining necessary safety and life support certifications, holding an annual North Carolina license, and possessing customer service and communication expertise.
Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interactions relative to the specific age of a patient. Skills validation/certifications of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of this level. Must maintain annual skill requirements. Must maintain annual safety/compliance requirements. Must maintain North Carolina annual license requirements for CEU's Customer service and communication expertise. Work involves contact with patients of all ages, family members, physicians, nursing, and all other members of the health care team. Work is performed in all areas of Duke University Health System, at applicablehiring location. Work may require lifting or pushing in excess of 30 pounds. Work requires walking, climbing and bending.
