The Active Treatment Coordinator organizes and coordinates age-appropriate leisure activities based on individual interests and goals, monitoring the quality of these opportunities both on and off campus. This role involves preparing feedback reports for the supervisor and maintaining inventory of recreational supplies for assigned units.
Candidates need one year of experience in direct individual care work or a high school diploma/equivalent, and must possess a valid Texas driver's license or obtain one within 90 days of hire. Essential requirements include passing background checks, drug screens, and demonstrating the ability to handle critical incidents calmly and use proper body mechanics.

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Establish and maintain positive, supportive relationships with individuals served, family members and friends, and employees.
Coordinates activities for individuals living at the State Supported Living Center that is appropriate to their level of functioning.
Providing oversight as activities are conducted and following-up to ensure quality active treatment and services are provided that meet with individuals’ satisfaction.
Prepares written documentation and reports, regarding monitoring of activities provided and outcomes of observations, quarterly or as requested.
Maintains professional and effective communications with Active Treatment
Coordinator Supervisor, Recreational Program Manager and Home Managers.
Ensures the availability of supplies and resources necessary for functional and appropriate activities.
Provides assistance, as needed, in transporting of individuals going on scheduled activities and in emergency situations.
Inspect workspaces and equipment for hazardous conditions, taking necessary action to correct any unsafe conditions. Reports unsafe conditions as needed to immediate supervisor.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (KSAs):
Ability to make decisions and use good judgment when dealing with critical incidents.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation.
Ability to demonstrate proper body mechanics, good posture, and proper lifting techniques.
Knowledge of individual care techniques and of treatment, therapy, and developmental programs or to learn these through training.
Ability to provide individual care, to administer first aid and/or CPR, to perform Ukeru (once trained), and to conduct Safe Use of Restraint (SUR).
Ability to communicate effectively and to train/mentor/coach others.
Ability to work effectively with others and as a member of a team.
Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date, is required. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
One year experience in direct individual care work or graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities (LEIE).
Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
