The primary duty involves administering the prescribed course of ionizing irradiation to patients according to physician instructions, which includes preparing the room and equipment, explaining procedures, and delivering the daily dose while observing safety measures. Responsibilities also include monitoring patients for unusual reactions, reporting complications, and maintaining detailed records of daily treatments and patient charts.
Required qualifications include current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy (AART-T) and Therapeutic Radiologic Technology Certification (TRT), along with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. A Bachelor's degree in radiological technology or equivalent is preferred, as is prior experience in radiologic technology.
