The Patient Care Technician assists the RN or LPN with direct patient care and personal needs, while also functioning as a unit secretary by managing physician orders, patient records, and unit supplies. This role is crucial for providing essential assistance and comfort to patients within the healthcare environment.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is the minimum education required, though previous Patient Care Technician experience is preferred. Candidates must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or EMT certification, current American Heart Association BLS Certification, and must obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within 90 days of hire.

A Patient Care Technician is responsible and accountable for assisting the RN or LPN in the provision of patient care and tending to the personal care needs of the patient as directed by the RN or LPN, as well as functioning as a unit secretary. Unit Secretary duties include, but are not limited to, the transcription and data entry of physician orders, retrieving patient information, maintaining patients' data records, answering phones, taking and reporting messages, running errands, delivery and pick up of specimens and supplies, as well as ordering and restocking of unit supplies.
