The HIM Technician performs various functions within the department, ensuring patient privacy and adherence to HIPAA regulations. Key duties include responding to information disclosure requests, data entry for birth certificates, scanning records into EMR, abstracting clinical data, and preparing records for audits.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with an Associate’s Degree preferred. Previous experience in a physician clinic or hospital setting, especially with an Electronic Medical Record system, is preferred, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
The HIM Technician performs multiple functions within the department under general supervision, while maintaining patient privacy and following HIPAA rules. The HIM technician collaborates with others in the department to complete the following responsibilities: respond to requests for disclosure of protected health information; collect and enter data for birth certificates; scan and index paper records into Electronic Medical Records (Epic); abstract clinical information into Epic; perform medical record analysis; prepare and submit records for audits and care gap closures; and additional duties as assigned.
00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm.
