The Exercise Nurse is responsible for performing cardiac stress tests using evidence-based practice, which includes reviewing patient history, starting IVs, monitoring EKG and blood pressure, and administering medications under physician supervision. This role requires continuous patient observation during exercise and recovery, reporting changes, and accurately entering patient data into the stress test computer system.
Candidates must be licensed Registered Nurses eligible to practice in the state of work, holding current BLS and ACLS certifications, and possessing at least two years of experience in a Critical Care Telemetry Unit. Specialized knowledge includes EKG monitoring experience and a basic understanding of nursing theory, procedures, and policies.

The Exercise Nurse is a licensed registered professional nurse who is responsible and accountable for performing cardiac stress tests using evidence-based practice within in the Cardiac diagnostic testing area. This is accomplished by assessing, implementing and evaluating care according to established ethical and cultural codes and standards of nursing practices and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. The Exercise Nurse is responsible to delegate tasks appropriately to other licensed and unlicensed health care team members. To include: Patient Assessment: Review patient history and evaluate baseline data, EKG’s and blood pressures. Notify physician of abnormal values to prevent complications Completes all necessary steps pertaining to requested stress test to include: starting IV’s, monitoring of patient’s EKG, blood pressure and administration of medications. Will perform stress test under the supervision of a physician. Communicates with patient and assists the patient when necessary during the exam. Provides continuous presence and observation of the patient during exercise and recovery. Reports and records patient condition and changes during exam. Enters the patient data into stress test computer system Must demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Education, Credentials, Licenses: Licensed to practice nursing in the state where work is being performed. If eligible, must have a Compact (multi-state) License in their primary state of residence. BLS certified. Specialized Knowledge: EKG monitor experience. Demonstrates basic knowledge of nursing theory, procedures and policies. ACLS certified.
