The Emergency Department Technician II functions as a member of the emergency department patient care team, working under the supervision of a registered nurse to perform various patient care procedures. This includes taking vital signs, initiating and discontinuing peripheral intravenous access, collecting specimens, performing ECGs, and assisting with basic wound care and patient immobilization.
Required qualifications include holding a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or a Paramedic (EMT-P) license in the State of Illinois, along with a High School/GED education. Candidates must also possess an American Heart Association BLS for healthcare provider CPR certification.
The Emergency Department Technician II functions as a member of the emergency department patient care team, under supervision of the registered nurse. The Emergency Department Technician II, performs patient care procedures and assists with the collection of basic health information. The Emergency Department Technician II provides for the care, comfort, and safety of patients, including, but not limited to, taking vital signs, initiation and discontinuation of peripheral intravenous access, specimen collection, performing ECG's, post-mold application, crutch-walk teaching, spinal immobilization, basic wound care, collecting patient history and assessment information. Other duties include recording pertinent information in patient charts and communicating with other Patient Care Team members to ensure continuity of care.
