This pharmacist routinely performs all duties of a home infusion pharmacist while dedicating significant time to specialty areas like pharmacy software maintenance, hardware upkeep, or staff training. Responsibilities include reviewing, preparing, and dispensing medication orders, ensuring safe and cost-effective therapies, and providing clinical consultation to practitioners.
A minimum requirement is a Five-year bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and a current registered pharmacist license from the Michigan State Board of Pharmacy. Preferred qualifications include specialist expertise in areas like pharmacy software, advanced training, and five or more years of experience in home infusion, hospital, or specialty pharmacy.
Minimum Ability to communicate effectively. Knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800. Preferred Excellent written or verbal communication skills. Computer Competency Familiarity with standard desktop and windows based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions. Physical/Mental Minimum Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, use of a computer keyboard). May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit dose-cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers). Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary. Must be able to physically operate the equipment for the job. What you will do: § Reviews, prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician order or prescription according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. § Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures and protocols. § Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department. § Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to physicians, as needed. § Provides drug information and counseling to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. § Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned. § Provides work direction to pharmacy support personnel, verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians. § Performs other related duties as assigned.
