The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for performing age-specific patient assessments to gather data, developing and implementing a respiratory care plan, and providing necessary treatment and diagnostic services. This includes coordinating care with physicians, drawing blood gases, administering various respiratory therapies, and responding to critical events like Code Blues.
Required education includes graduation from an AMA-approved respiratory care program and National Board for Respiratory Care certification, along with a State of Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner license. Candidates must also obtain BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications within specified timeframes after hire.
