The role involves fulfilling the needs of patients, families, and the community by performing various patient care functions and tasks under the supervision of a licensed professional. This includes preparing patients and equipment for therapists and assisting staff in administering services.
Candidates must be a graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program and hold a current license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the District of Columbia. Essential skills include effective verbal and written communication, strong interpersonal abilities, maintaining confidentiality, and adapting to changing priorities.
The George Washington University Hospital’s Medical-Surgical Rehabilitation Department is seeking an experienced Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to serve as a float therapist to support the therapy needs of our hospitalized patients and patients in our Acute Rehab Unit (ARU). GW Hospital is a 385 bed Level 1 Trauma Center, Academic Medical Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center with a 16 bed CARF accredited Inpatient Rehab Facility with additional CARF accreditation in Stroke Rehab and Limb-Loss rehab. Located in the heart of Washington, DC, GW Hospital offers clinical expertise and world-class care in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neuroscience, critical care, trauma, women’s health, organ and tissue transplant, and advanced surgical techniques. Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants are essential members of the dedicated care team, partnering with other healthcare professionals to enhance patients’ functional recovery and self-actualization, and elevate patient care through unit and system-based quality initiatives, evidence-based research and practice, and true interdisciplinary care.
Assists in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans and conducts therapeutic activities according to the Occupational Therapist’s guidance Monitors patient response and modifies treatment plans to address patient needs in consultation with an Occupational Therapist Work in close coordination with nurses, physicians, and other rehab professionals to provide comprehensive care for adult patients in the medical surgical units or in our ARU Offer guidance and education to patients and caregivers on tasks and activities necessary for rehabilitation. This position is 40 hours (five 8-hour weekday shifts) per week, with one required weekend shift per month.
