The Child Life Specialist reduces stress and anxiety for pediatric patients and their families through therapeutic play, education, and psychosocial support. They work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary medical team to normalize the hospital environment for patients.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Psychology, or a related field and possess Certified Child Life Specialist certification. One to two years of prior experience and BLS certification are required.
Responsible for reducing the stress and anxiety created by illness and hospitalization for pediatric patients and families. Assists pediatric patients and families with coping during the hospital stay and/or illness through therapeutic play activities, education and psycho social support. Works collaboratively with the medical, nursing and interdisciplinary team by playing a vital role in normalizing the hospital environment.

The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc.” The salary range does not include incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation.
St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is an academic tertiary care medical center and state designated trauma center, located on the Paterson campus, regularly accepts referrals of difficult or unusual cases from other hospitals and physicians and performs both complex and routine procedures.
