The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental health and substance abuse disorders across the lifespan, providing comprehensive care through medication prescribing, psychotherapy, and individualized treatment planning. The incumbent is also responsible for planning and directing primary health care delivery and health education programs in association with Methodist Healthcare Primary Care Associates.
Required education includes a Master's Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing, and candidates must hold active Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse licenses in Tennessee. Essential certifications include Family Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
Proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in a specialized field of nursing. Current DEA number (if required by facility). Supervision Provided by this Position There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position. Physical Demands Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials. Exposure to excessive heat or cold as required. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations. May require handling or administering of narcotics. Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with other individuals. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Ability to sit in one place, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend. Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion, as well as using hands for gripping and squeezing. Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive coordinated motions. Good hand-eye coordination.
