The faculty nurse practitioner is responsible for providing primary medical care to assigned patients, including history, physical exams, education, and management of acute and chronic illness. Key functions also involve maintaining accurate patient records and supervising assigned nurse practitioner students.
Candidates must possess Rhode Island RN and NPP Licensure along with ANA Certification in a relevant specialty such as family medicine, internal medicine, women’s health, or pediatrics. The role requires ongoing Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and exceptional communication skills for this per diem float position.

Thundermist Health Center is looking for a skilled, compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our Convenient Care team. In this role, you’ll deliver walk-in and same-day medical care to patients across our community — treating acute illness and injury, performing point-of-care testing and minor procedures, and making real-time clinical decisions as an autonomous, licensed provider. What You’ll Do Clinical Care Provide comprehensive patient care including history, physical examination, anticipatory guidance, and management of acute and chronic illness. Evaluate and treat acute, episodic illness and injury — lacerations, fractures, sprains, infections, and more. Perform point-of-care testing (rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis, STI, and more). Perform wound care, suturing, splinting, and minor surgical procedures. Order and interpret diagnostic tests (X-ray, ultrasound, labs) and initiate treatment based on results. Prescribe medications within scope of practice. Triage patients and determine the appropriate level of care, escalation, or transfer. Provide discharge instructions and coordinate appropriate follow-up care. Maintain complete and accurate patient records with same-day documentation. Supervise and mentor nurse practitioner students as assigned. Administrative & Quality Participate in peer chart review on a rotating basis. Contribute to departmental and team meetings. Meet patient throughput and productivity standards. Maintain compliance with credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging requirements. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. What We’re Looking For You bring clinical expertise, sound judgment, and genuine compassion to every patient encounter. You’re an autonomous provider who’s equally comfortable suturing a laceration, interpreting an X-ray, and connecting with a patient who just needs to be heard. Active Rhode Island RN and NP licensure. ANA certification in family medicine, internal medicine, women’s health, or pediatrics. Exceptional oral and written communication skills with proficiency in medical terminology. Commitment to ongoing CEU and professional development. Schedule & Locations This is a per diem position. Clinical operations run 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Friday and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday and Sunday. You’ll work shifts within those hours on a rotating schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Occasional overtime may be required during vacation periods or staffing shortages. Work Environment Onsite at Thundermist locations in an ambulatory clinical setting. Moderate physical activity including walking, standing, stooping, and occasional lifting, with manual dexterity required for procedures and equipment handling. Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, and other biohazardous materials requiring universal standard precautions.
