The secretary manages the daily clerical operations for the Rehab Services Department, including patient reception, scheduling, processing registration records, confirming orders, and handling insurance verification and authorization. This role also involves posting incoming monies, processing credit card payments, correcting invalid numbers daily, and scanning all relevant patient encounter information for payment, follow-up, and auditing.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or equivalent, with Junior College/Technical school preferred, and be CPR certified with a basic understanding of Medical Terminology. Required qualifications include the ability to type 45 words per minute, up to one year of hospital secretarial experience within the last five years, and proficiency with a personal computer in a Windows environment.
The Rehabilitation Service’s secretary is responsible for the day-to-day operation of all clerical activities at the Rehab Services Department. The Secretary ensures the quality of services rendered is acceptable. Primary duties include, receiving patients, answering phones, scheduling patients, processing registration records confirming orders, documents, and insurance verification and authorization. Confirms orders, documents, and processes registration records.
Interview patients in a friendly, professional manner while obtaining accurate demographic information needed to complete the registration process and expedite payment.
Post all incoming monies. Post and deposit all Credit Card payments. Correct invalid numbers daily.
This position will be responsible for scanning in all associated information that pertains to a patient’s encounter for payment, follow-up and auditing purposes. This includes but is not limited to copies of insurance cards, insurance forms, hand written documentation, mail and all other correspondence pertaining to that patient’s encounter.
The incumbent must be a high school graduate or the equivalent, with up to one year of hospital secretarial experience within the last 5 years. Must be proficient in using the keyboard of a personal computer in a Windows network environment. The incumbent must demonstrate a thorough understanding of healthcare insurance and government regulations.
Must have a positive experience and have demonstrated the ability to effectively work with the public.
