The Sonographer performs clinical assessment and diagnostic OB/GYN ultrasound examinations, including detailed anatomy and fetal wellbeing assessments, while also assisting physicians with invasive procedures like amniocentesis. They must use independent judgment to analyze sonograms, synthesize findings with medical history, and communicate results accurately to the physician.
Candidates must be graduates of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program accredited by CAAHEP, or possess ARDMS certification obtained before December 31, 2000, along with current BLS certification. Obtaining ARDMS certification in OB/GYN and Fetal Echocardiogram is required within 12 months of employment, though a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is desirable.
