The OR Assistant supports the clinical team by preparing surgical rooms, sterilizing equipment, and assisting with inventory management. They also ensure patient privacy, document medical information, and assist in the safe transport of post-surgery patients.
Candidates must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of prior operating room experience, preferably in plastic surgery. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a medical environment are required.
The OR Assistant’s primary role is to assist the operating staff with daily functions. They are part of the clinical team in the operating room. Key Responsibilities Maintaining patient privacy and always adhering to HIPAA guidelines Processing all deliveries and making sure the contents match the packing slip and making sure the packing slips are given to management. Assisting with OR inventory management and informing managing RNs if supplies are low. Occasionally take intraoperative photos at surgeons’ request. Transporting post-surgery patients in wheelchairs downstairs and assisting them to load into their departure vehicles with family members or caretakers Prior to each procedure the OR Assistant helps the surgical technician to set-up for surgery. After the surgery they assist with cleaning and sterilizing equipment, instruments, and surgical rooms. Maintaining the sterility of pre-op and post-op areas Turning over the operating rooms after each procedure Restocking implants with deliveries Restocking inventory after deliveries are processed Using computer applications-performing any data entry tasks to document patient demographics, records or notes to file. Documenting patient’s medical information, including medical history and review of symptoms within the patient’s chart. QualificationsQualifications: Required Skills & Attributes: Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize Clear verbal and written communication skills Strong multitasking and time management abilities Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Adaptability in a changing environment Poise and professionalism appropriate to a medical setting Education & Experience: Qualifications & Skills: Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum 1-year prior operating room experience, preferably in Plastic Surgery Polished presence is appropriate to a medical setting. Bilingual a + (not required).
