The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for transplant and hepatobiliary surgery patients, including daily rounding and medical management. They will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop treatment plans, manage immunosuppression, and educate patients and families throughout the transplant process.
Candidates must hold a current Physician Assistant license in Texas and be NCCPA certified. A graduate degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program is required, along with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Job Summary The Physician Assistant Inpatient Transplant (Non-Operative) is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who delivers direct patient care across the continuum of inpatient transplant services. The PA practices medicine in collaboration with and under the supervision of a licensed physician, in accordance with state regulations and institutional guidelines. This role focuses on the management of pre- and post-transplant patients in the inpatient setting, supporting transplant programs such as kidney, liver, and other solid organ transplants. The PA collaborates closely with transplant surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Essential Functions of the Role Perform comprehensive assessments, including detailed histories and physical examinations of transplant patients. Monitor and manage complex transplant cases, including immunosuppression therapy, rejection surveillance, and post-operative complications. Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests, including transplant-specific monitoring. Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with applicable regulations, protocols, and supervisory guidelines. Develop and implement evidence-based, individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team. Provide daily inpatient management, including rounding, care coordination, and discharge planning. Identify early signs of complications (e.g., infection, rejection, organ dysfunction) and initiate appropriate interventions. Educate patients and families on transplant care, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications. Coordinate care with case management, pharmacy, social work, and outpatient teams to ensure continuity. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and outcomes. Initiate consultations and referrals when care needs exceed scope of practice or require additional specialties. Participate in transplant call coverage as needed. Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. NCCPA certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer. Eligibility for prescriptive authority in the state of Texas.
