The technologist is responsible for creating cross-sectional images of the patient's body using magnetic resonance imaging equipment for diagnostic purposes. Key duties include positioning the patient, setting up the correct coils, entering patient and scan data into the computer, and monitoring patient safety and comfort during the examination.
Requirements summary
Candidates must possess an Associate’s degree in Radiology or be a graduate of an accredited radiology program. Required credentials include a State RT License through the NJDEP or MR Certification through ARMRIT, along with current BLS certification through the AHA.
Responsible for creating cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes, using magnetic resonance imaging equipment. Principal Accountabilities:
1.
Positions patient on examining table and places specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, close to area of interest, following protocols requested by Radiologist.
2.
Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination.
3.
Enters data, such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into computer.
4.
Keys commands to specify scan sequences and adjust transmitters and receivers into computer.
5.
Observes patient through window of control room and on closed circuit TV screen to monitor patient safety and comfort.
6.
Views images of areas being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures.
7.
Keys in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images.
8.
Alerts staff entering magnet room to the danger of wearing or carrying metal around magnet.
9.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
