The Advanced Practice Provider will serve as a first assist for bariatric surgical procedures and manage inpatient post-operative care. Additionally, the role involves conducting outpatient clinic visits and providing long-term management for bariatric patients.
Candidates must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with eligibility for prescriptive authority in North Carolina. A Master's or Doctorate degree is required for Nurse Practitioners, while Physician Assistants must have graduated from an accredited program.
Operating Room (OR) Coverage Serve as first assist for bariatric surgical procedures (robotic and laparoscopic) Support Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy 1–2 OR days per week depending on site Maintain ≥50% procedural time (Surgical Assist designation) Inpatient Coverage Post-operative rounding and discharge planning Manage routine post-op care and complications Daytime consult coverage for bariatric patients Support Mercy and Cabarrus as needed Outpatient Clinic Coverage Pre-op and post-op bariatric clinic visits Long-term bariatric patient management 1–1.5 clinic days per week Independent and shared visits Call Expectations Home call model Fellows provide majority of call coverage Limited weekend call (typically ≤1 per month) Schedule 4 shifts per week 10 hours per shift Blended OR, clinic, and inpatient responsibilities Qualifications Experience in Bariatric Surgery preferred, new grads considered. Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice. Nurse Practitioner – Master’s Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. Physician Assistant – Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master’s Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
