The physician will perform general plastic and reconstructive surgeries, including breast reconstruction, trauma, and wound care. They will also participate in a call rotation and have the opportunity to engage in teaching within the UND School of Medicine.
Candidates must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree and have completed an accredited plastic surgery residency program. Active board certification or eligibility in plastic surgery is required, along with demonstrated clinical activity of at least 200 procedures in the last 24 months.
Plastic Surgery Core Privileges include the ability to perform history and physical examination, admit, evaluate, diagnose and provide nonsurgical and surgical care to patients of all ages presenting with illnesses, injuries, and disorders that require the repair, reconstruction, or replacement of physical defects of form or function involving the skin, musculoskeletal system, cranio-maxillofacial structures, hand, extremities, breast and trunk, and external genitalia. Qualifications M.D. or D.O. degree. Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways: An applicant who has just completed a residency shall provide his/her residency log. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in at least 200 Plastic Surgery procedures in the last 24 months. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital, where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicants clinical and outpatient activity for the past 24 months is required. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of Plastic Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 200 procedures in the past 24 months. More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes. Successful completion of a hospital affiliated Plastic Surgical residency program (can be either the independent or integrated residency training models)1. The ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada must accredit residency programs. The Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors may consider training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than the above. Current subspecialty certification in plastic surgery by the America Board of Plastic Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. OR Successful completion of an (ACGME) or (AOA) accredited residency in a surgical specialty followed by successful completion of an accredited in plastic surgery residency (can be either the independent or integrated residency training models) and active participation in the examination process with achievement of certification within 5 years of completion of formal training leading to subspecialty certification in plastic surgery by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. (Refer to each entities policy for grandfather exceptions) Any individual who does not satisfy the board certification criterion may request that the appropriate governing Board waive it. The individual requesting the waiver bears the burden of demonstrating that his or her qualifications are equivalent to, or exceed, the criterion in question.
