The Certified Medication Aide is responsible for delivering quality nursing care and administering medications to residents in accordance with state and federal regulations. They also perform essential resident care duties such as monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and maintaining accurate medical documentation.
Candidates must possess a current, active certification as a Medication Aide and a Nursing Assistant in the state. Preferred qualifications include two years of long-term care experience and proficiency with Point Click Care software.
The Lev at Town Park - Houston, TX 77036Classification Hourly Non-Exempt Reports to Director of Nursing Summary/Objective In keeping with our organization’s goals, the primary purpose of the Certified Medication Aide is to deliver quality nursing care to resident’s requiring short-term, skilled, and long-term nursing care. The Certified Medication Aide administers medications and cares for the residents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and organization policies and procedures. This job description is to be used in conjunction with the Certified Nursing Assistant Job Description which contains duties that the this position is also responsible for fulfilling as assigned or necessary. Job Duties Under the direction of a nurse, provide direct nursing care and prepare and administer oral, nasal, eye, ear, vaginal, rectal, topical, and/or other medications according to applicable state and federal regulations, facility policies and procedures, and prudent nursing judgment Ensure that medications are administered in a timely manner and if there must be a delay, document explanations for delays as necessary Document administration of medications and other tasks in accordance with organization policies and procedures Follow appropriate infection control practices Keep medication cart clean, organized, stocked, and secured as directed Use medication cart and administer medication as directed and in accordance with organization policies and procedures Perform resident care duties as assigned by charge nurse, including but not limited to transporting and transferring, restocking resident room, changing linen, properly positioning resident, bathing, assisting with bowel and bladder needs, assisting with dressing, assisting with eating and hydration, taking vital signs, and caring for resident as needed or directed Deliver care to residents following their plan of care in accordance with current physician’s orders, rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the nursing care facilities under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse Provide care in a professional/courteous manner by ensuring the resident is approached in a kind, gentle and friendly manner Provide care in a manner that respect for the resident's dignity and privacy is consistently upheld Have knowledge of and utilize the facility’s written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department Utilize established methods for coordination and communication of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care. Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as necessary or as may be directed Provide complaint/grievance reports to the Administrator as required or as may be necessary Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents Report known or suspected incidents of fraud, abuse, neglect, and/or misappropriation to the Administrator Ensure that departmental computer workstations left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected automatic screensaver activates within established facility policy guidelines Ensure that departmental computer workstations left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected automatic screensaver activates within established facility policy guidelines Ensure to refrain from disclosing assigned user ID code and password for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator Ensure not disclose resident protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility’s information system QualificationsRequired Education and Experience Must possess a current, unencumbered, active certification to practice as a Medication Aide in the State Must possess a current, unencumbered, active certification to practice as a nursing assistant in the State 2 years’ experience in Long-Term Care experience preferred Six (6) months experience as a Certified Medication Aide preferred Strong utilization knowledge of Point Click Care preferred Computer literacy skills (Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, Internet) required. Must be able to demonstrate leadership, organizational skills, and maintain a positive and professional attitude Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
