Job Description
Operates Computed Tomography (CT) equipment. Prepares patients for exam, obtains required images for Physician to make a diagnosis. Assists in expediting patient flow and presents images for physician's diagnosis.
Job Responsibility
1. Prepares patient for examination.
Explains procedure in easy-to-understand terms based on professional knowledge to relieve patient of pre-testing anxiety.
Sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion.
Ensures consent form for intravenous (IV) contrast materials is obtained. 2. Performs CT procedures including, but not limited to, abdominal, thoracic, neurological, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, biopsies, etc.
Prepares patient for exam by placing patient on exam table and positioning within gantry.
Enters patient data and other pertinent information into system.
Calculates number of scans to be obtained based on patient size and operates CT equipment, ensuring required images are obtained, as ordered by Radiologist.
Communicates with Radiologist to review and determine if additional scans are required.
Transmits cases to on-call Radiologist using Tele-Radiology system.
Operates equipment for transfer of computed images to film, archival of disc memory to optical disk, and/or picture archiving and communication system (PACS). 3. Administers intravenous (IV) and oral contrast agents per Radiologist order.
Verifies there are no contraindications to administration of IV contrast agent.
Calculates contrast dose based on patient’s weight.
Performs venipuncture of appropriate gauge necessary for examination.
Explains, in layman’s terms, administration of IV contrast and completes IV Contrast Information Sheet with information provided by patient, family member or health care proxy.
Utilizes appropriate flush technique for an existing IV line.
Utilizes power injector to administer IV contrast.
Recognizes and assists in the treatment contrast agent reactions and/or IV extravasations. 4. Performs related duties, as required. *ADA Essential Functions
Job Qualification
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program, required.
New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
New York State Certification in IV Contrast Administration required within six (6) months of entry date into position.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Registered Technologist (R.T.(R)(ARRT)), required.
ARRT registration in Computed Tomography (R.T.(R)(CT)(ARRT)), required within eighteen (18) months of entry date into position.
Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, required.
Previous experience as a Radiologic Technologist, required. Previous CT experience, preferred.
