The Physician Assistant provides comprehensive primary medical care services to patients in accordance with licensure and organizational guidelines. They collaborate with the medical team to improve patient care experiences and participate in preventive health and disease detection programs.
Candidates must have successfully completed an accredited physician assistant program and hold current NCCPA certification. A valid state license, DEA certificate, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required for the role.

The physician assistant (PA) is part of a care team working to provide quality comprehensive services to Sea Mar patients. The PA will work collaboratively with staff to provide team-based coordinated care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES The PA provides primary medical care services to patients of Sea Mar Community Health Centers in accordance with training, experience, certification, insurance and licensure, under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or the Chief Medical Officer and in compliance with their personal utilization management plan and with guidelines established in the principles of practice at Sea Mar and its mission statement. The PA may refer patients to medical specialists or other sources of service when necessary. Job Description The PA prescribes and/or dispenses required medication to patients according to the individual prescriptive authority granted by the Washington State Board and with the sponsoring physician’s supervision. The PA participates in preventive health programs such as immunization, disease detection and disease prevention activities. This includes education programs for patients and community groups in the service areas with the approval of the sponsoring physician and the Medical Director and/or Health Center Administrator. The PA is expected to participate in clinical affairs, working with administrative personnel, the Medical Director and the Chief Medical Officer to improve the patient care experience. The PA provides care for special groups of patients such as those in nursing homes or other institutions when appropriate. Qualifications Knowledge of and interest in the unique cultural aspects of the Hispanic people is needed. Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred but not required Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Medical Screening Basic Education Baccalaureate degree or a minimum of two (2) years of college credits. State licensed Physician Assistant-Certified. Additional Requirements Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required Annual influenza vaccine required. Only exception is for employees with a medical or religious exemption approved by Administration. Employees with an approved medical or religious exemption must wear a mask at all time during the flu season. Minimum Formal Training Successful completion of an accredited physician assistant program. Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). To prescribe legend drugs, the Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) must have notation of approval on license. A current DEA certificate is required if applicant is requesting privileges to prescribe controlled substances. This position must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR within 90 days of hire date and is required to maintain current BLS CPR throughout employment. Additional education may be required for some specialty areas (orthopedics, etc.). Supervision JOB RELATIONSHIP Supervised By: Clinical Director and/or Medical Director and the Clinic Administrator as appropriate. Is evaluated on a yearly basis by the Clinical Director and/or sponsoring physician and the Medical Director and the Clinic Administrator. Interrelationships: Work closely with Clinical Director, Medical Director, Administrators and Executive Director to realize the programmatic goals of the organization.
