Create, facilitate, and document daily activities for residents in both group and one-on-one settings. Assist with resident transport, event setup, and provide support to the Activities Director.
Candidates should possess a compassionate attitude and a pleasant personality. Proficiency in American Sign Language is preferred, and all staff are required to participate in on-site ASL and culture classes.
New England Homes for the Deaf, founded in 1901, is a life plan community that offers a continuum of care to Deaf, Deafblind, and hard of hearing seniors, including independent living, rest home, skilled nursing community, Deaf senior centers, short-term rehabilitation services, respite care services and hospice care. The New England Homes for the Deaf mission is to provide long term healthcare, housing, recreational activities and social support for Deaf, Deafblind and hard of hearing individuals in an accessible, barrier-free, and culturally sensitive environment with optimal communication and architectural resources.
Available to work 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Preferred: available to work Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Create and facilitate activities for residents. Invite and encourage residents to attend and participate in activities. Explain time, place and nature of activities as needed. Offer activity materials for residents to peruse activities/interests in/out of room as desired. Assist with Sunroom activities. Assist residents with activities as needed. Properly document each resident's daily activity participation in the appropriate logs. Provide appropriate group and one-on-one activities for all residents. Provide appointment reminders to residents who have signed up for in-house activity services. Assist in the transport of residents to activity location. Copy and distribute Activities schedule to residents. Set up activity areas. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in offsite resident Activities. Attend outdoor events with residents on and off property. Performs additional duties, as assigned by the Activities Director, in support of Activities Department.
An attitude of respect and compassion towards all residents and staff. Willingness to work weekends, on occasion or regularly. Pleasant personality and ability to maintain a calm demeanor during excitable or emergency situations. Ability to communicate clearly using ASL is preferred. All staff are required to take our free, on-site ASL and Culture classes.
