The Lactation Specialist provides clinical care and education to breastfeeding mothers and infants while acting as a resource for clinical staff. They are responsible for documenting patient information, coordinating follow-up visits, and assisting the medical team with clinical tasks.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in an office-based medical practice. Required certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS) and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
High School Diploma/GED 2 years Work in an office based medical practice. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to care for patients utilizing a developmental perspective. Demonstrates respect for the right of patients and their families. Demonstrates via role modeling and consultation, advanced knowledge in the care and education of the breastfeeding family. Listens effectively, recognizes, accepts constructive criticism, and is open to opposing points of view. Demonstrates flexibility and is able to initiate, accept, and adapt to changing priorities. Demonstrates knowledge of breastfeeding learning principles. Competency in managed care process and understanding of referrals, prior authorizations, and insurer requirements. BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association Upon Hire and IBCLC - International Board Certified Lactation Consultant - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners Upon Hire Physical Demands Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
