The Patient Navigator serves as a central coordinator and advocate, guiding oncology patients through treatment by facilitating access to infusion therapies and managing care across multidisciplinary teams. They provide clinical education, monitor patient symptoms, and ensure effective communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and possess at least three years of clinical RN or patient navigator experience. A current Texas RN license and BLS certification are required, with oncology experience and certification preferred.
The Oncology Infusion Nurse Navigator serves as a central coordinator and patient advocate, guiding individuals through the complexities of cancer treatment by facilitating timely access to infusion therapies, providing comprehensive education, managing care across multidisciplinary teams, and supporting patients clinically and emotionally to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered outcomes throughout the continuum of care. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Three (3) years of previous clinical RN nursing or RN patient navigator experience Licenses, Registrations or Certifications Required: BLS Current RN license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas Certification in nursing specialty
2+ years of oncology experience Oncology Certified Nurse (willing to obtain within first year of employment) Job Summary: The Patient Navigator guides patients through the healthcare process. They are responsible for ensuring that the healthcare system meets the needs of the patient as best as possible. The navigator will communicate with patients and their families regarding their procedure, preparation, recovery and follow up as well as communicate with referring physicians. The navigator helps reduce fears about the procedure by explaining what the patient can except and answer all questions. Job Duties: Performs a variety of duties, including: Navigates patients through the diagnostic evaluation. Educates, supports and empowers patients to make informed treatment decisions. Remains a support system throughout the patient's treatment. Collaborates with the patients, families and providers in the decision-making process. Offers medical guidance, acts as a support group, and guides patients and their caregivers through the treatment process. Provides consultation and coordination throughout the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Communicates with patients to schedule procedure and provide preparation instructions and follows up with referring physicians on procedure status. Keeps open lines of communication with patients to answer all questions they may have prior to or after the procedure. Uses clinical expertise to make recommendations. Identifies and develops relationships with departments involved in the care of patients by educating them on the patient navigator role. Facilitates interaction and communication with all health care staff involved in patient’s procedure.
Actual salary commensurate with experience. Work Schedule: On-site, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and as needed on occasion. As needed in Galveston and League City to support infusion patients throughout the UTMB system.
