The Occupational Therapy Assistant implements established treatment plans to help patients improve independent living skills and monitors their progress. They also educate patients and families, assist with discharge planning, and supervise therapy technicians and students.
Requirements summary
Candidates must hold an Associate's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy Assistant and possess a valid Kentucky OTA license. Additionally, a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of employment.
Summary: Provides treatment for patients with physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or psychosocial deficits which impact their abilities to successfully perform independent living skills.

Responsibilities: Implements an established treatment plan using appropriate modalities. Documents subjective and objective findings of patient progress. Seeks consultation as necessary. Monitors patient's responses to the treatment plan. Regularly communicates patient progress and possible goal revisions to registered occupational therapist. Educates the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits. Assists with patient discharge planning. Provides information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and community support programs. Oversees the care provided by therapy technicians according to established licensing laws, state regulations, and OT practice standards. Supervises OTA students completing clinical rotations.
