Certified Nurse Midwife or Nurse Practitioner - OB Triage - Per Diem
Provide independent midwifery or nurse practitioner services, including clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of obstetric and gynecological patients. Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to formulate care plans and perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Requirements summary
Requires a degree in nursing (Bachelor's or Master's) and appropriate state licensure as an RN and CNM or NP. Candidates must possess relevant certifications such as ACLS and NRP, with strong preference for labor and delivery experience.
We are searching for a Certified Nurse Midwife — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide independent midwifery services to patients but collaborate with the attending physician and interdisciplinary health team.
This is a Per Diem position working nights 7p-7a.
Qualifications
Graduation from a school of midwifery required
RN - Registered Nurses and CNM - Certified Nurse-Midwife Required
Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
APN License, APN ACLS Cert, and ACLS NRP Cert Preferred
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a caseload of patients based on practice goals and objectives
Provide direct clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in the Nurse Midwife Collaborative Guidelines of the practice
Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations
Document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings
Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests
Perform approved therapeutic procedures based upon the patient’s clinical status
Document patient preparation and response to procedure(s)
Formulate and implement prenatal, intra-partum, postpartum, newborn and interconceptional care as defined by the nurse midwifery service
Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patient, family and staff
Maintain professional practice and development
Consult and/or serve as an expert consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team and to the larger community As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

In this position, you will practice in an advanced role to provide care for obstetrics and/or gynecological patients.
Includes but is not limited to outpatient roles in prenatal care, well woman, and gynecology services as well as inpatient roles such as rounding or assisting the physicians with deliveries and surgical procedures.

The nurse practitioner (NP) works under a delineation of clinical privileges and works collaboratively with other members of the health care team.
Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the NP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures.
As an advanced practice nurse, the NP is responsible for education, research, consultation and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.

Qualifications
Required master's degree Science in Nursing
For employees hired with Texas Children’s before 03/01/17, an MSN is required for NPs licensed 01/01/03 or after.
For employees hired with Texas Children’s before 03/01/17, either an MSN or a certificate program is required for NPs licensed prior to 01/01/03.
Required Licenses/Certifications: RN - Lic-Registered Nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact AND NP - Nurse Practitioner by the Texas Board of Nursing, FNP - Cert-Family Nurse Practitioner by the Texas Board of Nursing OR WHNP-BC - Cert-Womens Health Care NP by the Texas Board of Nursing
L&D experience strongly preferred
Responsibilities
Daily uses advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients' caseload.
Obtains a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Assess the patient’s physical status through the physical examination as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Performs or recommends age-appropriate health screening procedures as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Provides health maintenance and health promotion for women of all ages as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests as documented in the patient’s medical record.
Analyzes multiple sources of data and formulates a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians as demonstrated in the written documentation.
Follows established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems.
Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals and documents the plan in the patient’s medical record.
Accurately evaluates patient’s responses to interventions and modifies the plan of care demonstrated by written documentation.
Consistently demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers.
Consistently serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals.
Consistently applies new knowledge relevant to clinical practice.
Demonstrates current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills.
Demonstrates NP role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice.
Participates in departmental Quality Improvement program annually. Participates in at least one QI aspect of care, which shows improvement, related to patient outcome.
