The nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care in the PreOp and PACU areas, including patient assessment and physician assistance. Key duties include managing patient airways, administering pain relief, and providing post-surgical instructions.
Candidates must be a graduate of an approved college of nursing with current Alabama licensure and ACLS certification. Experience in Critical Care or Med/Surgery is preferred.

Position description: Clinical staff nurse eye center
Maintains established standards of care, policies, goals and objectives in administering professional nursing care to all patients presented to the Surgery Center of Huntsville.
Clinical Coordinator ECC, the Chief Nurse Officer and maintains a strong functional relationship with the Medical Director.
Graduate of an approved college of nursing with current Alabama licensure. Current or pending ACLS certification. Experience preferred in Critical Care or Med/Surgery.
Must be flexible in hours worked; must be able to endure long periods of standing or sitting and walking; may require bending and stooping, lifting and transporting of patients. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity; must be able to distinguish letters or symbols. May be exposed to communicable diseases and/or exposed to minimal amounts of radiation. Work area is well lighted and well ventilated.
Must be accomplished in the use of all equipment required in the discharge of assigned duties.

1. Responsible for the readiness of PreOp/PACU for each patient, including equipment, supplies and medications.
2. Assumes responsibility for total patient care for assigned patients; assists physicians and other staff members in carrying out the established standards of patient care.
3. Fosters appropriate public relations with patients, families and friends who visit the Surgery Center of Huntsville.
4. Promotes relationships with all areas in the Center by cooperating with their policies and procedures; supports and implements the philosophy and objectives of the Center.
5. Maintains communication with other personnel working in the Center so that an efficient working relationship is maintained at all times.
6. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of nursing methodology and legal aspects through independent study, in-service programs. Strives for self-improvement, and serves as a role model for all members of the staff.
7. Responsible for interpretation and execution of physicians' orders.
9. a) continuous self-evaluation of the effectiveness of patient care; b) observing, assisting or directing care given by other personnel as needed; c) collaborating with clinical coordinator and other staff members in evaluating the quality and appropriateness of care. Knowledgeable of the changes and/or addition to procedures and policies and implements accordingly.
a) reporting equipment malfunction, maintenance needs, and supply requests to Clinical Coordinator; b) being responsible for knowledge of fire, evacuation, disaster plans and OSHA regulations as they relate to work; c) implementing appropriate safety precautions; d) recognizing emergency situations and instituting established procedures for specific situations; e) insuring that a patient is never left without direct nursing supervision in the PREOP/PACU.
11. Supports staff development programs by participating and teaching, as requested.
12. Accepts responsibility for making suggestions and sharing knowledge to promote efficient working conditions and quality patient care.
13. Works productively to promote team efforts in cost awareness and containment, supplies conservation, protection of physical plant and property, equipment, resupply and stock area to maintain a state of readiness.
14. Remains flexible with all duties and able to move to any area or department and perform duties as assigned within your educational and work experience limitations.
15. Realizes limits of professional capability and asks for assistance when necessary, remaining alert, calm, and courteous at all time.
16. Obtains a verbal report from the OR nurse or anesthesia person regarding the particular needs or characteristics particular to each patient.
17. Assesses, manages, and maintains a patent airway at all times.
18. Assesses patient's pain level, providing safe and adequate relief measures in accordance with the recommended physician's orders.
19. Provides post anesthesia instructions, including wound care, what to expect after surgery, and when to call their surgeon regarding complications or problems.
