The specialist is responsible for gathering and accurately entering patient home medication information into computer systems. They must investigate discrepancies using external databases and pharmacy resources to ensure complete medical histories.
Candidates must be a certified pharmacy technician registered with the Board of Pharmacy with at least two years of experience. Proficiency with computers is required, and three years of experience is preferred.
Under the direction of a licensed pharmacist, the medication history specialist will be charged with gathering home medication information from patients, accurately entering that information into a computer system, and investigating any discrepancies identified. The employee will use all available resources (local pharmacies, external databases, primary care physician clinics, etc.) to ensure that medical histories are as complete and accurate as possible. The medication history specialist must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and adapt positively to changes in workflow.
