Overview The Audiology Extern is responsible for applying didactic learning to the clinical setting under the mentorship and guidance of a fully credentialed and licensed audiologist.
With support and guidance of the Audiologist, the Extern will provide diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services to inpatients and outpatients including assessment, treatment planning and implementation with related documentation.
Patients of all ages, from newborn to geriatric, are part of the practice.

Responsibilities
Care Delivery:
Receives referrals, screens and/or evaluates to determine the need for patient intervention
Interprets evaluation findings and develops an appropriate treatment plan, including goal setting
Carries out treatment plan and coordinates with patient, family, significant others, and care team
Monitors patient’s response and modifies treatment to achieve goals
Provides input to improve patient or employee safety. Follows all policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines related to safety

Documents the results of patient’s assessment, treatment and follow-up
Reviews and analyzes quality appropriateness of the Audiology services delivered. Reports associated problems to mentor or supervisor as indicated
Understands and complies with billing and reimbursement procedures according to governmental and third-party requirements
Reports any questions or concerns regarding compliance immediately to the attention of mentor, the department or organization/hospital administrative staff

Qualifications
Education: Actively enrolled as a 4th year student in an accredited audiology program.
Experience
