Performs complex pharmaceutical tasks including sterile and non-sterile compounding, medication distribution, and the operation of automated drug distribution machines. Additionally, provides training and coaching to Pharmacy Technician 1 staff while ensuring adherence to quality and security policies.
Requires a high school diploma and 3 to 5 years of related experience. Candidates must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI).
Replenishes automated drug distribution machines following a standard procedure established by policy. Troubleshoots for problems related to the operation of the automated drug distribution machines. Performs substantially all sterile solution operations in a pharmacy which serves numerous units in the hospital. Assures adherence to sterile procedures, care of equipment, uses correct labeling materials and techniques required during sterilization procedures, schedules sterilization of bottles, and performance of standard assays on all completed solutions. Assures that all quality related procedures are followed. Inputs information into the Hospital's inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested. Determines whether pharmacy stock is at acceptable levels, and coordinates supply and demand for products with users. For areas not served by point of care automated dispensing equipment, assures that required medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures. Performs extemporaneously compounding and prepackaging under the guidelines of pharmacy policy, and under the supervision, and check of a licensed pharmacist. May serve as preceptor to train, coach, and counsel Pharmacy Technician 1 so they are able to efficiently and effectively perform their duties. Follows all established procedures to assure the quality and security of the medication assets. Enters data into the computer system specialized to that activity. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education High School diploma is required.
Credentials Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI). Specialty certification is preferred.
