Responsible for the care and safety of patients, including case and patient preparation. Duties include managing the sterile field and anticipating the surgeon's needs during procedures.
Requires a high school diploma and graduation from an accredited surgical technology school. Must possess Basic Life Support certification and a Surgical Tech or Operating Room Tech certification.
The surgical technologist, under the guidance of the registered nurse, is responsible for the care and safety of patients under his/her care. The ST is responsible for case preparation, assisting with patient preparation, proper handling of instruments and equipment, preparation of the sterile field based upon the specific procedure and surgeon's preference, and anticipating the surgeon's needs. 'Certification requirement is only for those individuals hired after December 29, 2020'
