Provide direct and indirect care for patients undergoing invasive cardiac and pulmonary procedures or experiencing acute myocardial infarction. Responsibilities include assessing patients pre- and post-procedure, administering medications, and assisting physicians with bedside procedures.
Requires a nursing degree from an accredited school and a current Tennessee nursing license. Mandatory certifications include BLS, with ACLS and NIHSS required within six months of hire.
A registered professional nurse employed on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit (CSDU) of Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and indirect care of patients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures/surgery, invasive pulmonary procedures/surgery, and those experiencing acute myocardial infarction and/or cardiac rhythm disturbances.

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.
• Certification by specialty within 1 year of exam eligibility for area of practice (CVRN/ANCC).
The RN on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive direct and/or indirect care of patients undergoing cardiac and/or pulmonary procedures/surgery, as well as patients experiencing acute myocardial infarction and/or cardiac rhythm disturbances. The registered nurse must be able to assess and monitor patients pre- and post-procedure, as well as administer medications and assist with bedside procedures under the direction of EHS physicians. The RN must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit. He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. The employee must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures manual.
