- The Role: As part of a newly formed and rapidly expanding department, the Transfer Center serves as the operational and clinical hub for patient movement into UVA Medical Center.
- Managing 800–1100 transfers per month, this team ensures that patients gain access to specialized services and higher levels of care that are not available elsewhere.

- An average day includes both independent clinical decision-making and constant collaboration across care teams: Coordinate Patient Transfers by serving as the central point of contact, prioritizing cases based on acuity while ensuring EMTALA compliance Act as a Clinical Liaison and Advocate, working closely with referring hospitals, physicians, and UVA care teams to ensure seamless patient transitions Perform Advanced Triage and Telephonic Assessment, synthesizing clinical information and clearly communicating patient status to accepting providers Leverage Technology including EPIC, patient flow platforms, and advanced communication systems to drive efficient and accurate coordination Collaborate in Real Time with UVA physicians and interdisciplinary teams to determine appropriate placement and level of care Recognize and Respond to Emergent Cases, escalating critical situations and facilitating rapid clinical decisions Analyze and Document Patient Data to support quality outcomes, operational insight, and continuous improvement of transfer processes This role demands broad clinical experience across multiple specialties, strong critical thinking, and the confidence to make high-impact decisions—all within a structured weekend schedule that supports work-life balance without sacrificing clinical intensity.

- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
- Bachelor’s of Science in.
- Nursing Degree is preferred required within 5 years of hire date for all new hires.
Experience
3 years relevant experience.
Licensure
Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of. Virginia required. Valid Virginia Driver’s License (VADL) may be required PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. The starting base rate for this role is $41.26 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
