The Medical Assistant supports patient care delivery by maintaining clinic flow, obtaining clinical information, and providing physical care. Additional duties include transcribing orders into the EMR, applying casts and splints, and performing venipuncture.
Candidates must have completed an accredited Medical Assistant program and hold a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Preferred qualifications include an Associate's degree, pediatric care experience, and specialized certifications in phlebotomy or orthopedic technology.
Under the leadership of the Outpatient Department Manager and the indirect supervision of Physicians/APPs, the Medical Assistant assists with the delivery of patient care in the clinic by maintaining clinic flow, obtains routine clinical information on patients/family, provides physical care of the patients, procures and maintains par levels of clinic supplies, and provides light clerical assistance. Additional Medical Assistant tasks include: Transcribing of delegated orders into the EMR Casting/splint application, maintenance guidance and removal Obtaining specimens, including performing venipuncture This is not an all-inclusive list of this job’s responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program Ability to sit for certification exam from nationally recognized organization (i.e. American Association for Medical Assistants Preferred: One to two years' experience as a Medical Assistant Associate's degree Two years' pediatric care experience National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technology Certified Phlebotomy Technician Shriners Children’s is an EOE/Drug-Free, Smoke-Free Workplace.
