The Physician Assistant provides continuity of care for complex trauma patients from admission through discharge. Responsibilities include performing assessments, implementing treatment plans, and executing clinical procedures in high-acuity settings.
Candidates must be qualified Physician Assistants capable of working within a multidisciplinary team in a high-acuity trauma environment. Proficiency in trauma-related procedures and electronic medical record documentation is required.
Job Requirements The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a Physician Assistant to join a multidisciplinary team responsible for the care of complex trauma patients. Working at the Shock Trauma Center, you will become a vital part of a high-acuity trauma team that provides continuity of care for patients from admission through discharge and post-discharge follow-up. The Physician Assistant collaborates closely with nurses, therapists, residents, fellows, attending physicians, and students to ensure safe, timely, and evidence-based care for patients with a wide spectrum of traumatic injuries and complex medical comorbidities.
Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive assessments, develop and implement treatment plans for critically ill and injured trauma patients Manage patients in high-acuity settings including ICU, step-down, and acute care units Perform procedures within scope of practice (e.g., central line placement, arterial lines, chest tubes, etc., based on competency) Participate in trauma resuscitations and rapid response situations Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes Provide patient and family education and support throughout the continuum of care Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
