The technician is responsible for obtaining, labeling, and processing laboratory specimens while performing and reporting test results within established timeframes. They must also conduct quality control, preventive maintenance, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Candidates must maintain current licenses or certifications required for the position and adhere to hospital safety and infection control policies. Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and other federal healthcare regulatory agencies is required.
· Obtains, labels and delivers laboratory specimens in accordance with universal precaution standards.
· Prioritizes, performs and reports results of laboratory tests within established time frames and procedures.
· Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols.
· Performs and documents troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations and problem solving activities, to meet regulatory requirements.
· Recognizes abnormal results and refers them to the appropriate personnel.
· Displays professionalism at all times (i.e. communication with patients, physicians, co-workers, and other departments). Participates in team oriented decision making processes.
· Observes opportunities for improvement and communicates these ideas with the supervisor.
· Performs other duties as directed by the lead tech or manager.
· Serves as a role model to new employees by answering questions and helping familiarize new employees to the policies of the department/hospital.
· Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures; including (but not limited to) objectives related to safety, environmental, infection control, and quality assurance. Participates in educational programs as required.
· Displays professionalism at all times (i.e. communication with patients, physicians, co-workers, and other departments). Participates in team oriented decision making processes.
· Observes opportunities for improvement and communicates these ideas with the supervisor.
· Performs other duties as directed by the lead tech or manager.
· Demonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
· Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
· Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
· Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
· Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
· Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
