Perform laboratory analyses by preparing samples, embedding tissues in paraffin wax, and operating special stain instruments. Responsible for interpreting test results, maintaining equipment, and ensuring adherence to quality control and safety protocols.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a bachelor's degree in Biology or Life Sciences preferred. Candidates must possess laboratory skills, familiarity with histology equipment, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with potential biohazards.

Embed samples by orientating tissues in molds and adding Parafin wax Provide quality embedding, accurately embed a minimum of up to 60 blocks per hour, unloading Tissue Processer, scan barcoded cassette in Antrim for the appropriate worklist Maintain embedding station as required per Standard Operating Procedure and accepted protocols Meet minimum department production goals Prioritize stat and manifest blocks Reconcile all Antrim pending list for any work completed Operate Roche Benchmark special stain instrument Perform manual stains as required Calibrate and run Quality Control on the machines and assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the machines. Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results. Report any technical/QC problems to their lead tech or supervisor. Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed. Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience. Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent required, B.S in Biology or Life Sciences preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipment Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment Effective communication skills and ability to exchange accurate information. Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team Positive, can-do attitude Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office Working Conditions Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours. Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently. Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs. The ability to observe details at close range. Extended hours may be needed Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE. Work under close to moderate supervision Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
