The EKG Technician is responsible for attaching patients to electrocardiograph machines and heart monitors to record data for physician diagnosis. They explain procedures to patients, monitor test strips, and store results for cardiologist review.
Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED and BLS certification from the American Heart Association. Completion of a Cardiac Rhythm Course within one year is required to recognize abnormal heart rhythms.
The EKG Technician attaches patients to electrocardiograph machines and/or heart monitors to record electrocardiograms for use by physicians in diagnosing and treating heart disorders/disease. Explains procedures to patients, attaches electrode leads, monitors patients and strips during tests, and stores results for review by cardiologist. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
