The Medical Assistant supports providers by performing patient screenings, administering immunizations, and managing clinical documentation. They are also responsible for maintaining exam rooms according to OSHA standards and coordinating patient care.
A minimum of one year of experience is preferred along with intermediate computer skills and EHR experience. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is desired for this role.

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Medical Assistant with a minimum of one year of experience to join our Clinical team in Traverse City.

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in supporting Providers and clinical staff in delivering high-quality, patient-centered primary care in an ambulatory setting. This position assists with patient intake and screening, clinical procedures, immunizations, lab work, documentation, and care coordination while ensuring compliance with established policies and OSHA standards.

Key responsibilities: Prepare patients for examinations and assist Providers during visits
Perform initial patient screenings, including vital signs and health history documentation
Administer immunizations and perform venipuncture per protocol and Provider order
Maintain accurate patient records using electronic health systems
Clean and prepare exam rooms in accordance with OSHA and infection control standards
Wash, package, and sterilize instruments; dispose of contaminated supplies properly
Order and restock clinical supplies
Process prescription refill requests and support prescription assistance programs
Schedule diagnostic testing and obtain prior authorizations as needed
Support quality improvement initiatives and promote NMHSI’s mission
Assist with training new staff and mentoring MA students, as assigned

Qualifications: Minimum of one year of experience preferred
Intermediate computer skills and experience with electronic health records
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
Strong communication skills, critical thinking ability, and commitment to team-based care
