Responsible for evaluating patients and implementing individualized massage therapeutic interventions and plans of care. Collaborates with physician-led teams to provide care in outpatient clinical or hospital settings.
Requires certification from a state-approved therapeutic massage school with at least 500 hours of training and NCBTMB certification. Prefers three years of experience in a healthcare delivery system and completion of a hospital-based training program.
Massage therapists are responsible for the evaluation, plan of care, massage therapeutic intervention, reevaluation and education of patients who are referred by physicians or allied health practitioners for massage therapy. The massage therapist works closely with the patient, family and other members of a physician-led team in providing individualized patient care. Massage treatments may be provided in an outpatient clinical setting or in the hospital setting.
