Requires a Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling with valid Ohio licensure (LSW or LPC) and eligibility for independent licensure. Must have training and experience working with patients suffering from mental illness and/or substance disorders.
OSUWMC Harding Hospital Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES)-Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) Clinician will provide clinical assessment, care coordination, crisis intervention, liaison/administrative support, and advocacy for patients with opioid use disorder presenting to the OSUWMC Emergency Departments and/or admitted to the medical/surgical units of OSUWMC. Clinicians perform comprehensive mental health, substance use, and crisis assessments to patients with potential Opioid Use Disorders, other substance use disorders, and/or psychiatric crisis presenting to the OSUWMC Main and East Emergency Rooms. They also obtain detailed collateral information from patient self-reports, family members, other involved caretaking persons, treatment providers, lab results, and medical records. PES clinicians integrate these multiple sources of information into a diagnostic formulation, risk determination, and preliminary treatment recommendations which is then staffed with an MOUD APP, ED attending, and/or PES Attending Psychiatrist. The PES clinician-MOUD, collaboratively with the providers above, develop formal treatment recommendations, readiness for treatment, and determination of risk. Conditions requiring PES clinician-MOUD involvement may include Opioid or other substance intoxication, withdrawal, underlying substance use disorder, medical and/or psychosocial problems related to substance use. Other reasons may involve attempted suicide, depression, psychosis, violence or other rapid changes in behavior. Individuals may arrive at the Emergency Rooms through their own voluntary request, family members, a referral from another health professional, or through involuntary commitment via the police or ambulance. Care of patients requiring substance use and/or psychiatric intervention often encompass many serious and potentially life-threatening conditions which could include acute or chronic mental disorders, symptoms similar to those conditions, and/or medical problems. The PES Clinician-MOUD assists with the entire intake process, including triage of referral source calls, collection of pre-admission demographic, clinical, and payor information, verification of insurance benefits, eligibility, pre-certification, case management, brief psychotherapeutic interventions, psychoeducation, linkage, and the registration/admitting process. This position requires up to date knowledge of area addiction medicine/chemical dependency resources, as well as excellent clinical and organizational skills, the ability to triage medically/psychiatrically complex cases, and to flexibly interact with families, hospital and medical staff, students, and a wide range of external contacts.
For Hire: Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling and valid Ohio licensure (LSW or LPC). Eligibility for future independent licensure required. Independent licensure (LISW or LPCC) preferred. Pre or Post-Master’s training and experience in working with patients with mental illness and/or substance disorders is also required. Experience via an internship prior to completing Master’s level education may be considered. Experience with completing mental health, substance use disorder, & crisis assessments, case-management, and conducting evidenced based psychosocial interventions preferred. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays Ongoing: Maintain licensure(s), credentials and CBL’s. Practice within the parameters of the Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board.
